It’s a Small World Food Feast

 Potato cake from Africa.
Cous cous with whole chicken from Morocco.
Chicken curry from Malaysia - that's mine!

Fish with spinach and onions from Africa.

The small world feast ongoing.

December 22nd 2011 which was on a Thursday was the last day before school closed for the winter holidays. Our class had a food party. It was wonderful to be there with my classmates from the five continents around the world who cooked specialty cuisines from their homeland.

For some of them, it reminded them of their country whom they could not visit back in the nearest time possible as they were refugees. For others, it was to let others know more about their culture through the easiest way possible – through food.

For me, it was at first a pain the neck… I thought long and hard what dish I would cook and bring to school. It was not by choice. Our teacher, being very strict, had told us that we had to “cook food which is special in your country”.

I opted for tandoori chicken but I could not find the sauce in the shops. For lunch though, I made quite a hefty portion of curry chicken for hubby and myself. Hubby suggested why not I bring the same curry chicken to school tomorrow? It was delicious, he said.

My hubby solved the problem. I did not have to cook again as there was quite a huge portion left. The curry sauce was however a bit dry. So I sought hubby’s expertise in making it creamier. Hubby is well-known to me for making creamy curries with a Dutch flavour. Hubby added santan (coconut milk) and garlic chilli sauce inside my curry for the extra oomph factor.

And how well did it work! My classmates liked the curry a lot and it was the first dish to be gulped down and finished by everyone. I am glad that the effort to cook was well-received and from being a pain in the neck, it is now a sweet smelling sensation to the nose!
